Dry Creek Rancheria and Caesars Entertainment have partnered to transform the River Rock Casino into a new resort to be named Caesars Republic Sonoma County. A groundbreaking event was held Aug. 2 to begin construction on the two-year project which will open in Summer 2027.
Caesars Republic Sonoma County 2027
River Rock Casino is owned by the Dry Creek Rancheria and currently operates inside a tent-like structure. There are 1,000 slot machines, 11 table games, and three dining venues. For the past few years, the tribe has been planning to expand into a permanent casino and add a hotel to attract overnight guests. A tentative plan was announced in early 2023.
That plan eventually evolved into the new partnership with Caesars Entertainment to build the Caesars Republic Sonoma County. Caesars is involved with the development and will manage the property when it opens in 2027.
The new casino will be a luxury resort with a casino featuring 1,000 slot machines and 28 table games, a 100-room hotel, and three restaurants. It will also feature a wine bar with views of Alexander Valley.

River Rock Casino plans to expand from its present-day tent casino into a new, $300 million casino resort. The new casino will be larger with more slot machines and table games, more restaurants, and a 100-room resort hotel.
As part of the development process, the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians recently issued a supplemental environmental impact study of the project. This prompted Sonoma County to call for public comments on the study.
Sonoma County has no jurisdiction over River Rock Casino since the casino is located on sovereign tribal land. However, the county will be meeting with casino officials to discuss mutual issues involving traffic, public safety, and fire protection.
Residents with comments or concerns about the River Rock expansion project, they should write to the Sonoma County Administrator Office at 575 Administration Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 or email tribalaffairs@sonoma-county.org.

Last week the Sonoma County Supervisors approved a new agreement with the Dry Creek Rancheria to build a new casino and hotel on the 75-acre site of the River Rock Casino. The supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of the measure.
The agreement between the county and the tribe includes these provisions:
The new River Rock resort casino will include a 60,000 square-foot casino with 1,500 slot machines, mulitple restaurants and a food court, a 300-room hotel, spa, salon, fitness center, event center and a wedding chapel.
The new River Rock Casino plan replaces a 2008 agreement with Sonoma County to build a larger project with a 88,000-square-foot casino, 3,000 slot machines, and a 600-room hotel.
Dry Creek Rancheria agreed not to build another casino near Petaluma before 2035. The tribe owns 277 acres south of Petaluma, which has been approved for a casino by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. This provision is conditional and whether or not the Koi Nation's proposal to build Shiloh Resort & Casino near Windsor is approved by the federal government. If successful, Sonoma County would nullify a Petaluma casino.
When the new casino opens, the tribe will pay the county $750,000 annually for the first four years. Afterwards a two percent increase will be added annually until the payments reach a maximum of $1.5 million.
Plans for the new River Rock Casino Resort are in the development stage. Further information and the timeline are pending.
