The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians plans to open a new casino, named Crystal Shores Casino;, in Benzie County. The opening date will be in the last half of January 2025.

Crystal Shores Casino is named for the nearby Crystal Lake. The casino will operate inside a converted community center at 7282 Hoadley Road in Benzonia. The location is near the intersection of US-31 and M-115 highways.

Crystal Shores Casino

The Benzie County casino is approved by the U.S. Department of Interior, and the casino land has been transferred into federal trust for the tribe, in accordance with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

The Grand Traverse Band issued a press release in November 2024 to announce the federal approval of the casino. Few casino features have been disclosed.

Crystal Shores Casino Opens in January 2025

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians plan to open a small casino in Benzonia, MI, named Crystal Shores Casino, in late January 2025.

The new casino will occupy an existing community center building on tribe-owned land in Benzonia. The renovation project is currently underway with plans to install Class II slot machines, a limited food service, and beer and wine sales. The liquor license application is submitted and pending approval. The number of slot machines has not been disclosed. There will be no table games.

The casino will be small with only 2,794 square feet. The casino capacity will be limited to 254 visitors. By comparison, the GT Band owns two other casinos which are each much larger. The Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge has a casino with 30,000 square feet, and the Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel has a casino with 56,000 square feet.
