The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians board of directors passed a policy change last week to phase out smoking in the tribe's five Kewadin Casino locations.

"The board's decision to go smoke-free at our Kewadin casinos is another step on our broader path focusing on health and wellness of the communities we serve. We've been very focused as a tribal government on improving health, and this transition to smoke-free casinos is the right step forward that ensures we are creating a welcoming experience at Kewadin facilities that everyone can enjoy."

Kewadin Casino Hotel in Sault Ste Marie: Renovation/Expansion Update

Kewadin Casinos is in the midst of a multimillion-dollar, multiphase renovation and expansion project at the Kewadin Sault Ste. Marie location. The project will extend to the other five Kewadin Casinos in later phases.

Kewadin Casinos Sault Ste. Marie is currently undergoing phase one of the project, which is a total renovation of the exterior of its hotel tower. Phase two will begin in mid-January. That phase will construct new, additional hotel rooms, as well as renovate the existing rooms,

Kewadin Casinos are owned and operated by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The Tribe plans similar upgrades at the Kewadin Casino in Christmas, Kewadin Casino in Hessel, Kewadin Casino in Manistique and Kewadin Casino in St. Ignace.

Kewadin Casino plans major renovation

May 27, 2023

Kewadin Casino Hotel in Sault Ste Marie begins a multi-phase renovation this summer. The entire project will be completed in the winter of 2024. During that time the casino and hotel will remain open.

"We're proud to be one of the first casinos in Michigan to open and to be celebrating our 38-year anniversary in 2023. We've seen many great changes over those years, and now it's time for new look and feel throughout the property that will elevate the guest experience."

The first phase includes an all-new exterior and windows. This will take about a year to complete. Extra measures are planned to minimize the impact on casino guests.
