Cedar Lakes Casino & Hotel
Former Palace Casino breaks ground on replacement casino

December 08, 2017

A ground breaking ceremony was held in Cass Lake, MN for the new location for the Palace Casino and Hotel.

The new location will be easier for guests to find. Officials hope that it will be more visible and increase the amount of visitors. It will be off of Highway 2 Frontage Road.

The casino hotel is owned by the Leech Lake Tribe. Members approved the project in an election held earlier this year in May.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has agreed to finance the project. It is estimated to cost between $45 to $50 million.

The current building and location of the casino is in need of repairs and updates. The cost of those repairs and declining profits were the reasons behind the tribes support of relocating the casino.

It will now be renovated to provide a different function for the tribe. No plans have been released for what that might be.

Plans for the new location include blackjack tables and slot machines. There will be a restaurant, food court, and pub. As well as an arcade, event center, and gift shop. The hotel will have 100 guest rooms.

In the summer of 2019 is when the new Palace Casino and Hotel is scheduled to open.

Former Palace Casino Hotel will relocate

May 20, 2017

A vote was made this week by the Leech Lake Band Of Ojibwe regarding changing the location of the Palace Casino Hotel. The tribe voted in favor of the move that will now be located closer to the city of Cass Lake.

The plan was passed by 78% of the tribal members.

The casino's current location is in a rural area. The move will place the casino three miles away near the Paul Bunyan Expressway. Each year nearly three million cars drive on the expressway.

The White Oak Casino is also owned by the tribe. That is located close to the city of Deer River. In 2000 the tribe had also approved to build the Northern Lights Casino just on the outside of Walker.

Palace Casino Hotel opened in the 1980's. Since that time the current building has increased maintenance  needs and repair costs. Due to this it was decided to look at other options for the casino

Moving the casino is expected to $45 million. 500 new jobs will be created by the project. Construction will begin next year in the spring. It is estimated that the casino will open early 2019.
