The new hotel expansion project at the Mystic Lake Hotel Casino is scheduled to be completed by January 01, 2018. A corporate event has been reserved in the new space to take place the next day. February's Super Bowl weekend has also been booked.
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community own the casino hotel.
Construction started in 2016 for the hotel expansion. 70,000 additional square feet will be added. The space will be used to host conferences, meetings, and other events. There will be three ballrooms. The rooms can be sectioned into smaller rooms. There will also be an executive conference room that will offer meadow and golf course views.
New technology will also be available for meetings and events. Many will be able to be controlled by an iPad.
The new hotel tower is 9 stories tall. 180 guest rooms will be added. Of those will be 18 suites. Every room will have a view of the golf course. When opened, this will be the second largest hotel in the area. The hotel will offer 766 in total.
Minnesota natural scenes were the inspiration behind the designs. Droplets of water will be mimicked by the blue acrylic in the chandeliers. SageGlass will be featured in larger areas. This type of glass can filter sunlight without the need of shades or blinds. It can let in sunlight when the weather is cold and stop the heat in hot weather. The glass will be able to do so without covering the outside view.
120 new jobs will be added once the new center is completed.
The cost of the expansion project has not been released.

Mystic Lake Casino Hotel may now serve alcohol to guests. Approval came on Wednesday allowing for the casino to offer wine, beer, and liquor. The addition of alcohol sales to the casino has also added 70 new jobs. This includes bartending positions and servers for banquets.
Permission had to be given from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs as well as Minnesota Department of Public Safety before the casino could begin offering alcohol to casino guests. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community operates the Mystic Lake Casino. The tribe began seeking permission in May.
Alcohol service and alcohol awareness training has been provided to the casino employees.
