Cherokee celebrate acquisition of Mississippi casino

March 30, 2023

Cherokee Nation Entertainment (CNE) held a celebration and a gold ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday for its acquisition of the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Mississippi. CNE is the gaming and hospitality company owned by the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. The group purchased Gold Strike Casino Resort in February from Mandalay Resort Group for $450 million.

Gold Strike Casino features 1,200 slot machines, 8 game tables, high-limit gaming and a BetMGM Sportsbook. Restaurants include a steakhouse, buffet, and sports bar and grill. The Gold Strike hotel offers 1,131 guest rooms and suites.

Cherokee Nation Entertainment owns and operates ten other casinos in Oklahoma including the the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa.

Cherokee Nation Businesses announced the purchase of Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, MS this week. The tribe will pay $450 million in cash to MGM Resorts for the property subject to regulatory approvals.

The purchase agreement was announced June 9, 2022. In a press release, Cherokee Nation Entertainment (CNE) included the following statement:

"Cherokee Nation Entertainment has a rich history of operating award-winning hospitality destinations in Oklahoma, and we are proud to continue our growth in gaming and bring the level of excellence we are known for to the Tunica area."

Gold Strike Casino Resort has 50,000-square-foot casino with 1,200 slot machines, 8 table games and a sportsbook. The 32-story hotel features more than 1,100 guest rooms.
