North Carolina Casino Proposal for Anson County

North Carolina state lawmakers are considering the authorization of a new $500 million casino in Anson County as part of a new program to promote tourism in rural counties NS to compete with Virginia casinos for new tax revenues.

The Anson County casino would add approximately 1,750 jobs, and provide the county with $4 million a year in new property tax revenue. The casino will become a travel destination and an entertainment district with a hotel, retail stores, and restaurants.

County Manager Len Sossamon was told by state legislators that a casino in Anson County "will be" in this year's budget. Sossamon says he has not yet seen the final language that will be in the bill.

The Anson County casino location is expected to be in the western part of the county on U.S. 74 and 40 miles from Charlotte.
