North Carolina Casino Proposal for Nash County

August 10, 2023

Last week Nash County Commissioners voted in favor of a requirement for a local referendum to approve a casino in their county if the state proceeds with a casino expansion plan.

County officials say they have not been advised in the casino discussions currently underway in Raleigh. They feel the casino issue will be controversial for Nash County residents, and a county referendum is the only way to reach a final approval.

Commission chairperson, Robbie Davis, has concerns. He says Nash County is the poorest in North Carolina, and casino gambling may be harmful to the county.

The Mayor of Rocky Mount, Sandy Roberson, supports a casino. He says it will create new jobs and bring more revenue to the area.
