Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino

Harrah's Valley River celebrated it grand opening September 28, 2015.

In April 2013 the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians announced plans to build a second casino near Murphy in Cherokee County. The ground breaking for this $110 million casino was celebrated  October 15, 2013. and the grand opening was September 28, 2015.

Harrah's Valley River Casino & Hotel, is located on an 85-acre tract of tribal land in the western North Carolina mountains near U.S. 19/74. The location is an hour from Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort and two hours from Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Atlanta.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians also own Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, NC.

Construction of a $275 million expansion project at Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino is ahead of schedule to open late this year. The project is doubling the size of the existing property by adding a new hotel tower, more casino gaming space, and a new parking structure. See project details.

Casino
The new casino space is set to open later this spring. The expansion will add 23,359 square feet to the casino floor, 300 more slot machines, 8 more table games, a WSOP poker room, and a center bar. This will be the largest casino floor in North Carolina.

Hotel
The new 12-story hotel tower will open late this year. Construction has reached the tenth floor. The interior framing crews are working on the first six floors.

Exterior
Exterior work continues on the main entry. The new parking deck will open this summer.

Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel remains fully open during this construction period.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians owns this casino, as well as the Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, NC. The tribe also shares ownership with Caesars Entertainment in Caesars Virginia in Danville, Virginia, and Caesars Southern Indiana in Elizabeth, Indiana.

Harrah's Cherokee Valley River $275M Expansion Update - Dec. 2023

This flyover video of Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino & Resort in Murphy, NC shows the construction progress of the $275 million expansion project started in Sep. 2022. The project will add more casino gaming area, a new hotel tower, and a new 1,500-space parking deck.

The casino expansion will be completed next summer along with the parking deck. The expanded casino will be 25,000 square feet larger with 300 new slot machines, 8 more table games, and 'World Series of Poker' poker room. The new parking deck will connect directly to the casino with a covered walkway.

In late 2024 the new hotel tower will open. This 296 room addition will include a rooftop restraurant with indoor and outdoor seating, an indoor pool, fitness center, and full-service spa and salon.

Harrah's Cherokee Valley River's $275M Expansion Project

Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel broke ground last week on a $275 million construction project to double the size of its casino and hotel. The current size is 311,011 square feet. The expansion will add 315,158 square feet with new casino space, a hotel tower, spa, rooftop restaurant and more parking.

The groundbreaking event was held one day after celebrating the seventh anniversary of the casino, which opened Sept. 28, 2015.

NEW CASINO SPACE
The casino floor will add 23,359 square feet and host 300 new slot machines, 8 new table games, a 10-table WSOP poker room, and a new casino center bar and lounge.

NEW HOTEL TOWER
A new hotel tower will add 296 rooms and double the current room capacity. Features will include an indoor pool, and a 20,000-square-foot meetings and events room.

NEW ROOFTOP RESTAURANT
A 12,000-square-foot rooftop restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guest capacity includes 250 indoor dining seats, 30 outdoor terrace seats and a 25-seat bar.

NEW SPA
A full-service spa and salon will feature six treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, plunge pool, and a relaxation room.

Cherokee approves $275 million expansion of Valley River Casino & Hotel in Murphy

The Cherokee Tribal Council has approved a $275 million master plan to add a second hotel tower and more gaming at Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy. A council resolution was passed July 8th.

Details of the plan have not yet been released, however, Harrah's Regional Vice President for Marketing Brian Saunooke said the plan includes "an additional hotel tower, a new restaurant, a hotel lobby cafe, a spa and indoor pool, additional gaming space and additional parking".

An architectural has been selected to develop a conceptual design and prepare a cost analysis.
