Grand Forks Casino Resort

The Turtle Band Mountain of Chippewa proposal to build a casino resort near Grand Forks, ND, includes a casino with Class III gaming, such as Las Vegas-style slot machines and table games, a 200 room hotel with conference and banquet facilities, an entertainment center, and a travel plaza.

The tribe is seeking approvals for the plan from federal, state, and local governments. Federal approval will come from the Department of Interior after an extensive study by its Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Grand Forks City Council gave approval on Jan. 27, 2025.

The Turtle Mountain tribe has 30,000 enrolled members, making it the largest tribe in North Dakota. Headquarter are in Belcourt. The tribe owns the Sky Dancer Casino and Resort in Belcourt, ND, and the Grand Treasure Casino in Trenton, ND.

Location

The proposed site for the Grand Forks casino resort is on 146-acres of land owned by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. The land is located southwest of Grand Forks on the west side of Interstate 29 near the Grand Forks Campground.

The Grand Forks City Council voted 4-3 to approve a letter of intent from the tribe to build a casino, hotel, conference and banquet hall, entertainment center, gas station and a convenience store on 146-acres of land owned by the tribe.

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa will also seek federal approval from the Department of Interior through its Bureau of Indian Affairs. That approval process is extensive and can take several years.
