The Kiowa Indian Tribe received approval last week from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to build a new casino on an 11-acre site in Hobart, Oklahoma. The land will be transferred into federal trust to allow casino gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
In a released statement Kiowa Indian Tribe Chairman Matthew Komalty said:
"This is a prime opportunity to embark on great purpose for our Kiowa people while providing a community endeavor that will assist with prosperous advantages, and entertainment, to this economically distressed area. We express our sincere gratitude for this approval."
The casino will be built in Hobart on the westside of U.S. Highway 183 about a mile north of the Highway 9 (E. 11th Street). Full details of the proposed casino have not been announced. Preliminary information indicates the casino property will include a restaurant, offices, and 156 employees.
