Royal River opened in 1990 . The casino features 500 slot, two restaurants and a snack bar, and a 120-room hotel.

Royal River Casino completes expansion with Relaunch Weekend

Royal River Casino and Hotel has completed its $30 million total renovation and expansion project and is celebrating with a Relaunch Weekend October 11th-13th.

Royal River senior operations director, Tim Morrissey, explained the renovation and upgrade this way:

"The entire property has been gone through, This is a major upgrade. We went through and renovated and improved everything from the ground up."

"Other than the exterior four walls of the casino, everything has been taken down to the bare stone and rebuilt."

The celebration begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and fireworks show at 7:30 PM Friday Oct. 11. That will be followed Friday night with a concert by Lonestar. On Saturday night there will be another concert at 8 PM featuring the Eli Young Band.

The highlight of the weekend will be Sunday when one lucky guest will win a new 2019 GMC Yukon XL SLT.

The new Royal River has a larger casino floor with a center bar and a VIP lounge. The hotel, retail store and restaurants are all upgraded. The buffet has a new menu and new theme nights.

The building exterior has new paint, new landscaping and new signage. The air ventilation system and electrical have all been replaced with newer equipment.

The Royal River Casino in Flandreau is currently making major renovations to the interior and exterior of its casino and hotel.

James McDermott, the Royal River General Manager, says "Over past few years, Indian gaming has been relatively flat so its challenging, we have to market better, have to have better customer service, better slots, hotel and have to stay new, fresh and exciting,."

"Millennials grew up playing video games, so new slots have more bonus features, bigger screens, more flashy. Manufacturers are toying with skill based games where it plays more like a video game than a traditional slot machine, games are evolving as millennials are getting to gambling age."

The Royal River Casino has remodeled every hotel room and every restaurant in hotel as well as the casino area. New and more games will be added to the casino. In addition an upscale VIP bar has been opened for private events, and a new sports bar is coming with big screen TV's.

Everything from lighting to ventilation is being updated.
