The North Fork Mono Casino & Resort project began 20 years ago. Federal approval was granted in 2011 and the state approval came in 2012. Court challenges added years of delay before construction was finally started yesterday.
During the the event yeterday, Tribal Chairman Fred Beihn made these remarks:

North Fork Mono Casino's groundbreaking is Sept. 7, 2024
North Fork Mono Casino & Resort in Madera, CA will soon start construction. This week the North Fork Rancheria Tribal Council announced the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024. The event will be held at 17770 Golden State Blvd. in Madera from 8:15 am to 9:30 am.
No RSVP is necessary to attend. Take Hwy 99 West Frontage Road Ave. Exit 17 to the casino address and arrive by 8:00 am. Park in the fenced parking lot adjacent to the construction site. Ligt refreshments and coffee will be available.

After two decades of planning, litigations, and final approval, the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California (NFR) are preparing to start construction of the new North Fork Mono Casino Resort late this year. Construction will take 15-18 months to complete, and the grand opening of the new casino resort will be sometime in the first half of 2026. These dates are the current estimates. "If there's one thing we've learned over the last 20 years, it's that making hard claims about the timing has been fraught with challenges. So, we haven't set a specific time for groundbreaking, but we definitely expect it to happen this year." - Charlie Altekruse, NFR spokesperson North Fork Mono Casino will be built on Highway 99 north of Madera, California. The 100,000 square-foot complex will include a 68,150 sq-ft gaming floor with 2,000 Class III slot machines, 40 table games, a high-limit gaming area, and a bingo hall. Dining options will include a buffet, steakhouse, coffee shop, a food court, and five bars. A 200-room hotel will feature a pool and spa. After twenty years of delays, the planned North Fork Mono Casino & Resort will finally start construction this year. The casino will be built on Highway 99 north of Madera, California, and take 15-18 months to complete. The major breakthrough came this week when the National Indian Gaming Commission approved the management agreement between the North Fork Rancheria Band of Mono Indians and Station Casinos LLC, a Las Vegas development and management company. When construction is completed in 2026, the North Fork Mono Casino resort will feature 2,400 slot machines, 40 table games, 4 restaurants, a food court with 5 venues, 5 bars, and a 200-room hotel.
