Son of Star Casino is under construction by the MHA Nation in White Shield, ND. Construction began Sep. 20, 2023, and the opening date is scheduled for April 2026 The 37,000-square-foot casino will feature slot machines, table games, a poker room, sportsbook, restaurant, coffee shop, and campground. A hotel and event center may be added in the future.

The Son Of Star Casino location will be in White Shield just south of the powwow grounds. This site is on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in central North Dakota.

Son Of Star Casino will be the second casino owned by the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, AKA Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation. The nation also owns the 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, ND.

Construction of the Son of Star Casino is planned in two phases. Phase 1 began Sep. 20, 2023 with a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony. The opening date for this phase will be in 2026.

Son of Star Casino Construction | June 2025 Update

The MHA Nation began construction on the new Son of Star Casino on Sep. 20, 2023 and plan to open it in April 2026. The location is in White Shield, ND, just south of the powwow grounds on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

The White Shield casino will be named for Chief Son of Star, an Arikara leader who lived in the early 1800s.

"We came up with the (casino) name 'Son of Star,' because a lot of us are related to Son of Star. We come down from that lineage. So, we just thought we'd show some homage, I guess, to show respect for our culture and families.

When the casino opens next year, it will feature 230 slot machines, 6 table games, a poker room and a sportsbook. The Son of Star Casino will also have a steakhouse, a cafe, a gift shop and a campground. Future additions may include an 80-room hotel, an event ccenter and a convenience store.

Son Of Star Casino Begins Construction

September 24, 2023

The MHA Nation celebrated a ground blessing ceremony Wednesday to begin construction of the new Son Of Star Casino in White Shield, ND. The casino will open in 2026.

The architectural design of the Son of Star Casino displays the history and cultural of the MHA Nation using artwork, artifacts, and natural elements. The casino will be divided into quadrants representing the four elements of fire, water, earth, and wind.

"We are honored to have worked with the MHA Nation to create this new casino. The casino is a beautiful and welcoming space that will provide both entertainment and economic opportunities for the MHA Nation and the surrounding community."

The Son of Star Casino will benefit the MHA Nation with new revenues and new jobs for its members, and visiting tourists are expected to boost the local economy.
