When the Pueblo of Sandia opened the Sandia Casino in 1994, the casino was the first Indian gaming casino in New Mexico. In 2005 Sandia added a hotel and other amenities to become a destination resort.
In January 2014 the Sandia Resort & Casino began a major expansion project to add a four-story parking garage, a golf pavilion and a spa. The parking garage was built on the northern area of the property. The Green Reed Spa has moved from a location near the casino floor to a new location near the golf course.
