St. Croix Chippewa Indians and Governor Tony Evers signed a compact amendment Monday to add sports betting to the three St. Croix casinos. The agreement must now be reviewed and approved by the U.S. Department of Interior in the next 45 days. Federal approval is expected.
The St. Croix Tribe follows the Oneida Nation as Wisconsin's second tribe authorized to open a sportsbook.
The tribe is preparing for sports betting to open before the Feb 13 Super Bowl. A large sports book facility Turtle Lake Casino is already under construction. Sports betting kiosks will also be installed at Turtle Lake, as well as St. Croix Casino Hertel in Webster and St. Croix Casino Danbury

St. Croix Casino at Turtle Lake has shut down for at least 30 days to fight to spread of COVID-19 currently surging in Wiosconsin and the Midwest. Wisconsin currently ranks fourth in the nation in per capita cases.
In a message posted on the casino's website, the St. Croix Chippeawa of Wisconsin announced the temporary closure of St. Croix Casino Turtle Lake was intended to help the safety and well-being of guests, workers and the communities. A reopening date will be announced at a future time.
St. Croix Casino Turtle Lake is located 75 miles northeast of Minneapolis. It is one of three casinos owned by the St. Croix Chippeawa Tribe. The other two are St. Croix Casino Danbury and St. Croix Casino Hertel.
