Plans for a potential new Casino Arizona remain under evaluation as the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community considers the future of a major redevelopment site along the McKellips Road corridor near Mesa.
The Community's Gaming Enterprise is evaluating construction of a new casino that would replace the existing Casino Arizona, which opened in 1998. Tribal reporting in October 2025 said the existing casino's gaming floor had reached full capacity following numerous renovations and that the Community's 2021 gaming compact created new opportunities for gaming expansion.
The potential replacement casino would be connected to the much larger redevelopment of the former Salt River Materials Group Dobson site, where the Community issued a Request for Interest in November 2025 covering approximately 270 acres of Community-owned land.
Under the preliminary redevelopment layout, the proposed Dobson Road extension would roughly divide the property. About 147 acres west of the roadway are available for commercial development. On the eastern side, at least 38 acres are identified for commercial development and approximately 80 acres are reserved for an adjacent gaming facility.
The eastern portion of the property has been the primary focus of the Gaming Enterprise's evaluation of a possible replacement Casino Arizona. However, the Community has emphasized that the redevelopment RFI was seeking proposals for non-casino development rather than proposals to build or operate the casino itself.
If a new casino is ultimately developed at the site, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community has said it would be completely owned and operated by the Community. The exact location and program for the potential casino had not yet been determined in the Community's published planning materials.
The larger Dobson redevelopment is envisioned as a major mixed-use destination on Community land near Loops 101 and 202. The Community is also working with the Maricopa County Department of Transportation to extend Dobson Road north from Mesa across the Salt River to serve the redevelopment area.
The RFI was released November 3, 2025, with responses due January 30, 2026. A Community response addendum indicated that a subsequent RFP was expected as the next stage of the process, with the timing subject to change.
As of September 29, the Community's public SRMG Dobson Site Redevelopment webpage states only "Updates Coming Soon."
Final casino specifications, project cost, construction dates and an opening date are not provided in the official Community sources reviewed for this update.
For now, the existing Casino Arizona remains open while the Community continues evaluating what could become its eventual replacement.
