Kansas legalized mobile and retail sports betting last week when Governor Laura Kelly signed Bill 84 into law. The legislation was passed by the House and Senate in April and gives the Kansas Lottery and the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission oversight of statewide sports betting.

Betting is allowed on professional and collegiate events, including in-state college games.

The 2021 Kansas legislature enters the year with another chance to pass sports wagering bill. The issue was debated last year before the legislative session was curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Legalized sports betting is supported by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly and by key Republican lawmakers. The neighboring state of Missouri has three sports wagering bills ready to be introduced in its early legislative session, and Kansas would lose potential revenues if it does not act at the same time.
The year 2021 is positioned to be the year that Kansas approves sports betting.
