Mohegan Casino Las Vegas

The Mohegan Tribe, which owns and operated the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, was the first Native American tribe to operate a casino in Las Vegas. The Mohegan Casino opened on March 26, 2021 inside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas replaces the former Hard Rock Hotel, which operated 1995-2020 on Harmon Avenue east of the Strip. Richard Branson and a group of investors purchased the Hard Rock property in 2018. Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment was contracted as the licensed operator of the casino in September 2019.

Hard Rock was shut down in April 2020. The property was rebranded as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and a year-long renovation culminated with a new grand opening in March 2021.

Mohegan Tribe ending casino role in Las Vegas

May 15, 2024

The Mohegan Tribe and Virgin Hotels announced the end of their partnership last week. The Mohegan Casino Las Vegas will be transitioned over to Virgin Hotels Las Vegas by the end of this year, if approved by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

After completion of the transition, the casino will be overseen by Cliff Atkinson, the president of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

"We are grateful for the collaboration with Mohegan, and we will continue to work together to ensure a well-ordered transition of casino operations," Atkinson said in a statement. "This transition is a natural progression in our journey to provide guests of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas with a seamless resort experience."

No further details about the future of the casino have been released by either party.

Mohegan Sun Casino Las Vegas changes its name

October 28, 2022

The first tribal casino to operate in Las Vegas has officially changed its name from Mohegan Sun Casino Las Vegas to Mohegan Casino Las Vegas. The Mohegan Tribe shortened the name of this casino and ot her properties to "refresh our presence" and "reflect brand evolution".

The Mohegan Sun Pocono is renamed the Mohegan Pennsylvania. The tribe's Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment company is now renamed Mohegan.

"We are in the midst of an exciting period of development as a brand, so we felt it was the right time to refresh our presence in Las Vegas.

"While it may seem a small change, this decision was strategic and aligns with our evolution. We are confident that this new property name truly allows us room to grow in this exciting market and encapsulates our corporate values while aligning with the Tribe's growth-focused future."

Mohegan Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas Opens Today!

Mohegan Sun Casino and Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will both officially open their doors this evening at 6 PM. The casino is the first in Las Vegas to be managed by a Native American tribe, the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut.

The new hotel-casino replaces the former Hard Rock Hotel located on Paradise near Flamino. Complimentary self-parking for the hotel-casino is available to the public at 6 PM at the Paradise Garage off Paradise Road and the Harmon Garage off Harmon Avenue. Valet parking is available at the main entrance and at Harmon Garage.

All restaurants will open with limited capacity up to six guests per table. Reservations are available online at virginhotelslv.com. The grand opening includes live entertainment from 6 PM to late night.

Mohegan Casino Las Vegas will open March 25

After two recent delays, the new Mohegan Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will officially open on March 25, 2021. The casino will be the first in Las Vegas to be operated by a Native American tribe, the Mohegan Tribe.

The Mohegans were also the first tribe to manage a casino in Atlantic City, the Resorts Casino Hotel. The Mohegan Tribe owns a worldwide casino management company, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE).

Mohegan Casino Las Vegas will be located on the first floor of the Virgin Hotel, which is replacing the former Hard Rock Casino. The gaming floor will be 60,000 square feet and feature 650 slot machines and 50 table games. The Virgin Hotel will have 3 towers, 12 restaurants and bars and an entertainment center with capacity for 4,500 guests.

Mohegan Casino Las Vegas receives gaming license for Jan 15 opening

The Mohegan Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will be the first Native American casino to operate in Las Vegas, Nevada when it opens January 15, 2021.

Last week the Nevada Gaming Commission formally approved the casino license which clears the way for the January opening. The Commission Chairman John Moran told the Mohegan officials:

"We are glad to have you here as the first Native tribe on the Strip corridor. You have an impressive string of firsts. The Mohegan tribal gaming has come a long way in its eight locations and nine with Las Vegas and Nevada."

The Mohegan Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas will open on the former site of the Hard Rock Hotel and operate a 60,000-square-foot gaming floor featuring 650 slot machines, 50 table games and a sportsbook. A private gaming room on the 16th floor will be reserved for high rollers.

Mohegans will manage new Virgin Las Vegas casino

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, owned by the Mohegan Tribe in Connecticut, will manage the casino operations at the new Virgin Hotel Las Vegas which opens in late 2020.

Virgin Hotels is buying the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Hard Rock will be closed in February and followed by 8-months of renovation and rebranding..

Virgin Hotels selected Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment to run its casino subject to approval by the Nevada Gaming Board. Mohegan Gaming currently manages six other casinos:

Mohegan Pennsylvania - Pennsylvania
Inspire Entertainment Resort - South Korea
ilani - Washington
Paragon Casino Resort - Louisiana
Resorts Casino Hotel - Atlantic City

Terms of the agreement between Virgin Hotels and Mohegan Gaming are not disclosed.
