Nevada Casinos | Tribe Casinos
In recent years a few Native American tribes have become owners and operators of major Las Vegas casinos. More tribes are considering plans to build or acquire a casino in Las Vegas. (Tribes in Las Vegas)
All Nevada casinos are regulated and controlled by the Nevada Gaming Commission, except for four Indian gaming operations regulated by the National Indian Gaming Commission. (Nevada Tribal Casinos)
Las Vegas Casinos Owned by Tribes
Beginning in 2021, three major Native American tribes came to Las Vegas to own and operate state-licensed casinos.
The first tribe was the Mohegan Tribe from Connecticut, which partnered with Virgin Hotels to open the Mohegan Casino Las Vegas.
The second tribe was the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians from California, which purchased and manages the Palms Casino and Resort.
The third tribe was Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Seminoles own Hard Rock International, which bought the Mirage and will reopen it in 2027.
Two more Native American tribes have an interest in owning a Las Vegas casino.

The Palms Casino Resort was reopened in the spring of 2022 by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, owners of the Yaamava' Resort Casino in Highland, California. The Yaamava' is the largest casino resort west of Las Vegas.

The MHA Nation owns 23 acres of vacant land across from Luxor on the Las Vegas Strip. The tribe plans to build a casino, hotel, convention center, theater, and perhaps a sports center.
Cherokee Nation (Oklahoma)
A potential tribal player in Las Vegas is the Cherokee Nation, one of the largest gaming tribes in the U.S. The Cherokee operate eight casinos in Oklahoma and the Gold Strike Hotel & Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.
The Cherokee do not currently own a Las Vegas casino but "remains open to the idea in the long term", said John Sparks, Chairman of the Cherokee Nation Gaming Commission (July 2024). Sparks said the tribe is not looking into Las Vegas "just yet". The Cherokee have the financial ability to acquire or build a Las Vegas casino.

Las Vegas Tribe | Casino? No Dice!
May 4, 2025
The Las Vegas Paiute Tribe is a nearby resident of Las Vegas, yet the tribe is not a player in the local cassino market. The Paiutes are headquartered in the Las Vegas Indian Colony adjacent to the northwest corner of the city with the tribal address is 1 Paiute Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89106.
It is interesting that the Paiute Tribe has a gaming compact with the State of Nevada that authorizes casino gaming on their land. However, the tribe is not using it to run a gaming facility. Instead, the tribe is growing non-gaming revenues from on-reservation enterprises.
While some out-of-state Native American tribes are moving into Las Vegas to buy or build casinos, the Las Vegas Paiutes have looked elsewhere for business opportunities. You might say that any casino dreams have gone up in smoke! Big smoke, as in tobacco and cannabis! These smoke-related businesses operate on tribal land with the same sovereignty rights as tribal gaming.
The Las Vegas Paiute Tribe owns a series of tobacco shops around Las Vegas. The tribe also owns one of the world's largest cannabis dispensers and a highly-popular golf resort.
