Red Hawk Casino plans 5,000-seat arena
November 3, 2025
The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians are planning a major expansion at Red Hawk Resort Casino that will include a new 5,000-seat arena for concerts, live performances and conventions.
The plan has been discussed since 2023. It would be built on new tribal land transferred into federal trust by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). If the transfer is approved by the BIA, the tribe will use the 295.7 acres of new land to build the multi-purpose events arena plus other commercial and retail ventures, and housing for tribal members.
The new arena would be built on a 15-acre parcel directly west and adjacent to the Red Hawk Casino. The site is bordered by Shingle Springs Drive and Home Court. The arena plans are in the early stages, and the tribe has not announced a firm construction schedule.
The El Dorado County supervisors are currently reviewing the federal land transfer proposal at the request of the BIA. The agency is seeking the county's assessment of potential impacts to local land use, tax revenues, and public services.

Red Hawk Casino Tribe buys Macy's in downtown Sacramento
July 11, 2025
The former Macy's store in downtown Sacramento has been purchased by the Native American tribe which owns Red Hawk Resort and Casino. The vacant store, which closed last March, was purchased by the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians for $15 million.
"The land is part of the foundation of our existence. It is where our ancestors lived and flourished. By re-acquiring our ancestral lands, we're reclaiming our history, our traditions and a deeper connection to our ancestors."

The Shingle Springs tribe now owns two properties in downtown Sacramento. Last year the tribe bought a vacant parcel of land at 301 Capitol Mall.
Although no plans have been announced, Tribal Chairwoman Cuellar hinted of the tribe's interests in the properties:
"We're thinking hotel, family entertainment, maybe some type of a nightlife thing going on. We want it to be a destination. It's a great visibility right on Capitol Mall, right next to DOCO. I mean, we couldn't ask for better properties."
The tribe hopes to announce its development plans for these properties in downtown Sacramento within a year.
