Casino Del Sol Vahi Taa'am celebrates inaugural dome lighting

The first lighting of the iconic, copper dome at Casino Del Sol, Vahi Taa'am was celebrated with speeches and fireworks last night by Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council members and community leaders.

The lighting event represents a key milestone in the construction progress started on Jan. 13, 2025. Construction is scheduled for completion in November 2026 with the grand opening expected in early 2027.
Latest Construction Video Construction is steadily progressing on the new Casino Del Sol Vahi Taa'am off Grant Road north of downtown Tucson. In December a 28,000-pound, all-copper dome was installed above the central rotunda of the casino. Crews are now preparing to paint a massive new artwork to the interior-side of the dome.

The dome decor project will be led by local artist Joe Pagac who says the crews will be painting 24,000 square feet of the casino's ceiling to recreate the Arizona desert sky. The huge project will paint a sky-blue background with white clouds and programmable lighting to change from daylight to nighttime.
The art project is scheduled to start in February. Workers will begin on the ground level painting mock-ups of the desert sky, and then climb up to paint the images on the curved surface inside the dome. The project is expected to take seven weeks to complete.
