MONUMENT VALLEY PARK, AZ - The Navajo Nation announced the opening of their new View Hotel at Monument Valley Park. The 90-room hotel is located three hours northwest of Flagstaff on Navajo land in Arizona.

There is some speculation that the new hotel will lead to a casino at Monument Park. The Navajo have approved gaming on Navajo lands in a 2004 tribal referendum. Their first casino named Fire Rock Casino will open in Window rock this November.

Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. said in a press release, “Job creation on Tribal land means economic opportunity but also translates into cultural preservation. When family members can find employment close to their traditional homes they stay connected with their culture and their language. This fosters an environment where traditional ways of the Navajo people can be passed from generation to generation.”
