December 12, 2007 UNCASVILLE, CT – The Mohegan Sun began a major expansion of its casino and hotel in mid-2007 to draw more visitors from further distances. Currently the casino attracts 35,000 daily visitors and earns $1.5 billion in annual revenues. The expansion project includes new “Casino of the Wind” to be located adjacent to the existing Casino of the Sky. It will have a 64,000 square-foot gaming floor. 964 slot machines, 26 tables, and a 45-table poker room. This will increase the number of slot machines at Mohegan Sun to 7,600 and the number of table games to 380. The Casino of the Wind is scheduled to open in the Spring 2008. Construction has also started on a 38-story hotel with 1,000 guest rooms. This will include 300 specialty “House of Blues” guest rooms. This expansion should relieve the casino’s current occupancy rate of 93% for its existing 1,200 hotel rooms. It will open in 2010. The partnership with House of Blues also includes a 1,500-seat music hall, a restaurant, and a store. These will open in 2009. Return to Connecticut Casinos. |
