Illinois Senate approves major gambling billSPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois Senate voted 32-18 to approve legislation that would authorize a major expansion of gambling. It would allow a casino in downtown Chicago, allow two other new casinos in the state, allow existing casinos to expand, and allows slot machines at race tracks. The bill is intended to help pay for a major construction program for new roads, bridges and schools. The Senate also approved the privatizing the state lottery as part of the construction program.
