Oxford County Casino Proposal Qualifies for Nov Ballot

AUGUSTA, ME - Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap announced a proposal to build a casino in Oxford County has qualified for the November ballot.  Petition signatures exceeded the minimum number required for the ballot and were certified by state election officials.

Now the state legislature can approve the initiative or sent it to voter on November 4th.  If Maine voters pass the measure, then Oxford County officials and residents must also approve it.

MEASURE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The casino will include slot machines, card games, table games, and lottery games.
     
  • The state limit of 1,500 slot machines is removed.
     
  • Race track casinos will be limited to 1,500 slot machines each.
     
  • Minimum gambling age will be reduced from 21 to 19.
