April 1, 2008 AUGUSTA, ME - The Maine House of Representatives voted 101-42 to approve 100 slot machines for the Penobscot Nation, and requires the tribe to pay the state Gambling Control Board 22 percent of the net income from slots to support college scholarships and other programs There will be one more vote in the House before sending the measure to the Senate, which is expected to approve and send it to the governor for signature. However, Gov. John Baldacci has promised to veto it, so it will then take a two-thirds vote in the House and Senate to override his veto. Return to Maine Casinos. |
