March 12, 2008

WILLIAMSBURG, MI - The new Turtle Creek Casino is in its final stages for opening June 17th. A formal grand opening will follow a week later. Then sometime this summer the existing casino will be demolished.

Shawn Carlson, the marketing director of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, said "It's all the finishing touches, whether we are installing equipment for the restaurants or putting in carpeting. I would say we are roughly 85 percent done."

  • $80 million project
  • 347,000-square foot casino resort
  • 64,000-square foot gambling floor
  • Hotel - 120 rooms, 7 stories
  • New nightclub
  • New fine dining restaurant
  • New buffet
  • New shops

The tribe also plans a major retail center on 145 acres that surround the casino in Acme and Whitewater townships. That project is on hold pending federal approval to transfer the land into federal trust.
