Greektown booking rooms before February 12 opening

November 13, 2008

DETROIT - Greektown announced last week that it is taking reservations for its new 400-room hotel that will open Feb. 12th.

The exterior of the building is completed and a crane used to erect the structure has been removed. Rooms are on floors 8 through 30 are nearly complete, minus the furniture.

"I am pleased with the level of completion," said Rick Kalm, executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, after touring the hotel to observe its latest progress. "I'm not concerned with construction."

"We are close to booking 10,000 room nights for next year," said Susan Sereno, director of sales and marketing for Greektown Casino-Hotel. "The level of interest has been tremendous. Our location is good and people know Greektown."

The hotel has already booked 12 weddings for 2009 and is fully booked for the weekend of the NCAA men's basketball championships April 4-6 at Ford Field.

The hotel's room rates will be the lowest of the three Detroit casino hotels, ranging from $189 a night to $229 a night. Guest rooms also are smaller than those at MotorCity and MGM Grand Detroit.

The Greektown hotel will have a fitness room on the seventh floor, a restaurant called Bistro 555, a bar area called the Shades Lounge, a grand ballroom for 250 people and 7 board and meeting rooms.
