Growing Support for Several New Casinos in the State

October 18, 2011

"Michigan is Yours" is a group dedicated to changing the State Constitution to allow for seven casinos to be built in the state. The group's wordage on the petition has been approved by the Michigan Board of State Canvassers. The proposed casino locations are in Saginaw, Lansing, Port Huron, Romulus, Grand Rapids, and Detroit.

If the amendment to the State Constitution is approved, it would allow for the a portion of the revenues to be paid to the state's advertising campaign, government, and schools. Currently the plan calls for 20% of the revenues to fund the Pure Michigan National Advertising Campaign. 2% will go to the county government of the casino locations. Another portion of the revenues will be deposited into the State School Aid Fund.

In order for the petition to be placed on the November 2012 ballet, the group must obtain 320,000 signatures. The signatures must be collected by Marc 15, 2012.
