Huge Meadows Casino opens in Spring

January 6, 2009

PITTSBURGH - The new casino at Meadows Racetrack will open this spring with a 350,000-square-foot gaming floor and 4,000 slot machines on the main floor. This includes a high-limit slots area with bets up to $25.

The new casino will also have ample room for 40 table games on the main floor if the state legislature legalizes them. Lawmakers plan to introduce a bill in the upcoming session to allow table games in Pennsylvania.

There is also plenty of room for 50 poker tables on the lower level. Poker would share the space with a 24-lane bowling alley and the betting area for harness racing. The minimum age on the lower level will be 18 which is allowed for track betting. The minimum age on the main floor will be 21 which is required for slot machines.

The $123 casino will replace the existing temporary casino with about four times its size and twice the number of slots. It will include a restaurant, a steakhouse, a food court, and a snack bar. The parking garage will accommodate 3,000 cars.
