PITTSBURGH - The Rivers Casino will debut its 3,000 slot machines when it opens
August 9th. The $780 million casino features a multistory glass facade
overlooking the Ohio River, downtown Pittsburgh and Mt. Washington.
The outside amphitheater between the casino and the river will seat 1,200 for a
grand-opening concert with Motown band Rare Earth followed by fireworks.
"It's a wonderful place. It's exceeded my expectation immensely," said CEO Greg
Carlin of Holdings Acquisition Co. He said officials decided to open on a Sunday
because fewer people would attend the event. "We want to make sure everyone has
a good customer experience. We want to sort of ease into the opening."
There are nine restaurants and bars. The sports bar will open this fall and the
ballroom will open next year. A night club is also planned for the future.
The restaurants will seat 1,100 diners and offer everything from pizza to
hoagies and wings, as well as European-style bistro fare and an upscale menu at
Andrew's. The all-you-can-eat Grand View Buffet overlooks the river will serve
$15 lunches and $25 dinners including barbecue, Asian, Mongolian, American and
