New Tucson casino is included in upgraded state-tribe gaming compact
The new gaming compact that added new games such as craps, roulette and baccarat to Arizona Indian gaming casinos also allows the Pascua Yaqui Tribe to build a third casino in Tucson. The development of the casino is now feasible but not guaranteed nor imminent.
The new compact specifies a new casino may be built by the Pascua Yaqui at Interstate 10 and Grant Road. The process will take several years before the project has all the required approvals from the local, state and federal governents.
The building site for the new Tucson casino must be taken into trust by the U.S. Department of Interior for the purpose of gambling under the Indian gaming Regulatory Act. The approval process requires an environmental impact report and community comments before a federal decision is made. That process is the longest and will take several years.
