The Seneca Nation of Indians are objecting to a bid submitted by a Wisconsin
Indian Tribe. The Wisconsin tribe has asked to build a new casino in the
Catskills resort area. A formal rejection has been sent by Seneca leaders to the
state of New York to stop this.
An agreement was made previously with the Stock-bridge- Munsee Band of Mohican
Indians and Gov David A. Paterson. This was for the return of land claims in
Central New York in exchange for 330 acres located in the Catskills.
The Seneca are against the building of a new casino on newly acquired land.
Stating that it would violate federal policy against off reservation Indian
casinos.
The bid will have to be approved by the Interior Department and Congress before
it can move forward.
Return to New York Casinos.
