OMAK, WA - The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation held a ground breaking ceremony Monday to begin construction of their new Omak Casino. It is scheduled to open next summer. The $24 million project is located on the southern edge of Omak just off Highway 97.

To begin the ceremony tribal elder Andy Joseph Sr. offered a prayer for the land and then chanted "for the sake of our creator, our maker, the animals, the salmon, everything we have on this good earth of ours."

The Omak Casino will not replace the nearby Okanogan Bingo Casino. The Okanogan continue to operate as a bingo hall with a few slot machines.
